MTS to MPEG : How to converter AVCHD files to other manageable formats?
I have MTS files form Canon HG20 camcorder and am trying to convert them to more manageable formats. I tried the following:
1. Super from eRightSoft : The video gets converted, but is in slow-motion.
2. Total Video converter (trial version): Video converts great, but crashes after every two files. Interface is very un-intuitive.
Are there any other converters that could do this job?
Computers tried:
1. Dual core 1.6GHz, 2GB RAM /Vista
2. Single Core 2.4Ghz, 1GB RAM/ XP

Upgrading my PC is not an option. Please advice on software solutions.
First response: I just need a converter. I don't want to spend another few hundreds of $$ on software and/or hardware.
I can see that Total Video converter Works Great for what I need. I don't need editing software, I need something that can batch process MTS files to MPEG or AVI files.
I need alternatives for Total Video converter, as it has been crashing after every 2-3 videos.
HDD is a non-issue here.
How about using an editor that is designed to support AVCHD compressed (MTS) files?
The current versions of Sony Vegas and Adobe Premiere float to the top for Windows/Vista environments. Of course, this presumes your computer meet at least the MINIMUM requirements of those applications.
The XP machine is a non-starter because there is not enough RAM. The Vista machine is very light on RAM - just be sure NO other apps are running - this may not be enough for Vegas or Premiere. You did not tell us what the available Hard Drive space is - you need to have the video projects on a drive separate form the operating system startup drive - otherwise the vitual memory will be fighting for resources of the video project activity. Not using an external drive with the RAM you are unwilling to upgrade is asking for system problems.
